Applications Being Accepted for Linnaeus Gardener Class Six
Orientation Session set for August 16
Become a part of the most exciting volunteer program in Oklahoma! The next Linnaeus Teaching Garden volunteer orientation will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the Tulsa Garden Center auditorium, 2435 S. Peoria Ave from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A reception at the Linnaeus Garden will immediately follow orientation. If you love gardening, learning and working with people, the Linnaeus Teaching Garden and Volunteer Program is the place to be. Volunteers have many service opportunities: help maintain the teaching garden, provide the public with solutions for their gardening questions, teaching, leading tours, working with children, the elderly, and applying their computer skills to our website.
Barry Fugatt, Tulsa Garden Center Director of Horticulture, will give an overview of the Linnaeus Teaching Garden’s Volunteer Program. Volunteer applications will be taken at the end of orientation. A 12-week training program will teach volunteers how to maintain the garden and how to effectively share their gardening skills and knowledge with the public. Classes will be held on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. beginning September 6, 2008. Training topics will include: basic botany, plant fertility, entomology, plant pathology, pruning and propagation, along with cultural practices for growing annuals, perennials, vegetables, and woody plants. Garden design principles also will be taught. Training will take place at the Linnaeus Teaching Garden.
